Day Three: Drunken Birds and Broken Sinks 2/2
7/19/2024
I am not proud but weeks later my sink was still broken. At times more, at times less. Water would still leak here and there but my time at home was scarce and the problem seemed to persist for infinity. My inaction was not really aiding the solution either.
Usually I tackle problems as they appear but whenever I tried to repair the sink my inner sloth would take over. The leaking sink has proven to be my fiercest enemy, yet. A mighty dragon I couldn‘t slay. Or so, I thought until Sir Cordoba - Repairer of Kitchen Sinks, came to my rescue.
We met through common friends and would mostly hang out in larger groups. During such an event at my castle he must have detected the malfunctioning waterhole and made a mental note to himself. He didn‘t bring it up to me right away but instead would ask me to meet again in the next few days. The dear Sir and I agreed to reunite at my whereabouts and quench our thirst with chilled drinks.
Fast forward a few days. The Kitchen Knight would enter my premises and quickly announce a change of plans: „Today, youngling is not the day we drink. Today is the day to ride out to defeat the mighty dragon.“ My lips trembled in fear. My hands became tense but his conviction was enough to give me the bravery I need for this dangerous endeavor.
We would ride what felt like days to the far land of Ferreteria to upgrade our weaponry. We arrived. The locals would point us to the town's smith. Sir Cordoba slowly approached the smith and explained our upcoming task in a calm, fearless tone. Silence. The smith hesitated and advised him to find a more experienced dragon slayer. Sir Cordoba shook his head in disagreement and stared into the smith‘s eyes. Reluctantly, he was given two items: The Pipe of Destiny and The Screwdriver of Truth.
We rode back and arrived at the monster‘s cave. Pure, uninterrupted silence.
Suddenly, the beast stormed out and sprayed us with its mighty water beam. We persisted. The attacks would continue. We stood strong. We fought for minutes but couldn‘t stop the dragon's assault. We kept failing. After many attempts however, the impossible happened. He managed to ram The Pipe of Destiny into the fierce opponent. The monster stopped spraying. I stood there in shock but then realized that only The Screwdriver of Truth could seal the deal. I stormed into action and attacked our nemesis with all I had. The monster, my nemesis… it fell. Victory was ours. Today was a great victory for us and for friends across the shire.
Anyways. i realized that friendship comes in different shapes and forms. It is not only laughter and joy, not just the good times.
Real friends come through in bad times. My knight in shining armor came through for me when fixing my sink.
I raise my glass to you! To my new friend, Sir Cordoba - Repairer of Kitchen Sinks, I salute you!
